Humphrey Perkins Celebrates Energy Sparks Success
We’re proud to share that Humphrey Perkins School achieved the highest gas savings in March as part of the Energy Sparks initiative. By reducing our gas usage by 48% compared to the same time last year, we saved over £3,000 and prevented 10 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in just four weeks. Our success came from a series of practical changes. We installed thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) on all radiators and carefully assessed room usage, turning down or switching off heating in areas with minimal daily use.
We also adjusted heating schedules across all blocks and introduced point-of-use water heaters to reduce reliance on our main boiler.
Initially, we used the Energy Sparks scoreboard simply to track our progress and gather ideas. However, it quickly became a valuable tool for driving real change.
As a result of our efforts, we’ve been awarded £100, which we may use to create signage that helps staff and students stay informed about energy use.
We’re committed to continuing our work with Energy Sparks and look forward to taking part in future initiatives focused on reducing and monitoring energy consumption.
