Matilda Jr Musical

At the start of July, the Humphrey Perkins School dazzled its audience with a fantastic performance of Matilda Jr.

Based on the 1988 novel by Roald Dahl, and the subsequently adapted musical, Matilda Jr centres on Matilda, an intelligent young girl who, with the help of school teacher Miss Honey, must combat her cruel parents and tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchball.

For many weeks and months, the children had been rehearsing, practicing songs and memorising lines.

It wasn’t all about the actors, actresses and singers on stage though; many children also worked exceptionally hard behind the scenes helping to design, create and paint props and ensure the music and lighting all ran accordingly. This was a real team effort from all involved.

All the hard work finally came to fruition as the long-awaited show was performed for three consecutive nights in front of a packed crowd at the school’s Arts Theatre.

The children were an absolute credit to themselves and the school, wowing the audience with amazing acting and sensational singing; all the hard work paid off.

The attendees that left the performance were in awe of the standards, taking to social media to express their amazement.

“It was a brilliant performance, absolutely loved it,” one individual noted.

Another asserted: “It was an amazing performance and such a wonderful opportunity for all the children involved.”

“An incredible performance, congratulations and well done to everyone involved!”

The standards have certainly been risen and a high bar has been set for next year’s summer term performance!

A massive congratulations to all the children involved and also the staff who worked incredibly hard to prepare the students and ensure the evenings ran smoothly.
