Rugby Masterclass with Leicester Tigers Coaches

Leicester Tigers community coaches have joined us at Humphrey Perkins to lead our PE curriculum for the last two weeks. The coaches gave all of our students a taster session into rugby, with the hopes of inspiring students to take a further interest in the sport, and develop their talent and abilities.

Our students showed dedication and determination to get involved and enjoy the experience, finishing lessons covered in mud and having a fantastic time after learning how to tackle.

One of our Year 8 students said “I didn't think I would like the sport but the coaches made it really fun and I enjoyed learning how to tackle and getting all muddy. I am looking forwards to the club after-school so that I can keep playing rugby."

Following the success of the lessons, we are thrilled to have been given the opportunity for the Leicester Tigers community coaches to lead an after-school rugby club starting on Tuesday 7th February. We can’t wait to welcome boys and girls in both KS3 and KS4 to take up this incredible opportunity with the aim of entering rugby tournaments in the near future!

It wasn’t just our students who benefitted from this opportunity, our staff members developed and upskilled their teaching ability in PE too! They got the chance to ask questions, and use what they have learned within their own lessons. Our student teacher commented that the programme had taught him lots of little games and teaching points that he will use moving forward.

We are thankful to Leicester Tigers for this opportunity and can’t wait to work with the coaches again in the future.
